Surfs Up Activity 

The first sweatshirt is cheaper than the second one because 30% of 60 is 42 and 40% off 72 dollars is 43.20. The first sweatshirt is 1.20 cheaper than the second one.

The second jacket is cheaper because 20% off 96 is 76.80 and 30% of 120 is 84. The second jacket is cheaper by 7.20.

The first jeans is cheaper because 30% of 48 is 33.60 and 45% off 68 is 37.40. The first jeans are cheaper by 3.80.

The second tracksuit is cheaper because 25% off 64 is 48 and 30% of 86 is 60.2. The second tracksuit is cheaper by 22.20.

The least you could spent if you brought one of each clothing item would be 200.40 and the most would be 224.80. You would save 24.40.

I figured it out by figuring out what the percent is as a fractions, timing it by the cost and dividing by the fractions denominator. Then misusing the total from the cost.

The thing I found most challenging was using multiplication and division strategies to estimate and solve problems with fractions, because it was hard to found a strategy that worked.

This term we have been learning all about the Marae. We have learned that…….

• The Marae is an important focal point for the community.
• The Marae is a place where tradition and customs can be carried out.
• The Marae is a place where people can express their values with dignity.
• There are many kawa ( protocols) that prevail on the marae.
• Marae kawa (protocols) can differ between marae's and iwi.

We have focussed on some key concepts when doing this learning.

This term we have been learning about Parliament. We have looked at the difference between government and parliament, NZ parliament, who is in government, how our government works and we compared democracy to dictatorship.

Three things that I learned about NZ parliament are:

• Where everyone sits during a session in parliament.
• The people in parliament and what they do.
• That there is a underground passageway for the people of the house to arrive at parliament faster.

Melody - A part of a song that gets stuck in your head.

Harmony - A major song which is a happy song or a minor song which is a sad song.

Rhythm - A strong or regular repeated pattern.

Timbre - What makes the song unique.

Form - How the song is put together.

The one area of CARE that I am doing best in is: Excellence because: I have achieved most things for Excellence on my CARE chart.

The one area of CARE that I need to work harder in is: Active Thinking because: I haven't achieved much o my CARE chart.

To show my leadership qualities I am a role model to others in the CARE values by doing/showing these leadership traits: Resilience, and Motivational.

The Water Cycle is a process that water goes through between land, sea and the atmosphere. There are 5 main stages in the Water Cycle, these include, Evaporation, Condensation, Precipitation, and Runoff/ Groundwater.

Evaporation

Evaporation is a process of the sun heating the water, and turning into a gas. In some hot countries, the Evaporation is greater. Evaporation is an invisible process, that changes water into a gas. The vapor that is in the air is called humidity. Some countries have a high amount of humidity. Once the water has turned into a gas, it floats up into the sky, and turns into clouds (Condensation.)

Condensation And Precipitation

Condensation and Precipitation are two of the main parts of the Water Cycle. Condensation plays a big part in the Water Cycle; this is the stage where the dust and water particles form clouds (Condensation.) You know how there is water on the windows in the morning when it is cold, this is a great example of Condensation.The next stage is where the rain (Precipitation) falls from the clouds. There are many different types of Precipitation, such as: Rain, Hail, Snow, and Sleet. When the Precipitation hits the ground, it is called Runoff, or Groundwater.

Runoff / Groundwater

This is the stage where the Precipitation hits the ground and becomes a Runoff, or Groundwater. Did you know that the water you you drink everyday is recycled Groundwater. So you know how it rains, that’s all recycled water, which means that the rain could have been the cup of water you drank last week!

Overall, the Water Cycle is one of the most important things on earth. Just remember that there are 5 main stages in the Water Cycle, Evaporation, Condensation, Precipitation, and Runoff / Groundwater. If we didn’t have clean, drinkable water… we would die.

For reading I have been learning about adverbial clauses. I have found this learning… Boring because… I had already learnt this, and there wasn't anything fun about it.

In this activity My Reading Task, I had to... explain what part of the sentence was an adverbial clause.

In this unit I have been learning about:

• The parts of speech.
• The types of nouns.
• The types of sentences.

In this unit, I found challenging trying to remember all of the different types of names for nouns.

Something new I learnt was how to put these nouns into sentnces.

2. On the top line make a mark at 3cm and 7cm.

 For the first activity, I had to say what the number shown was: 3, then I had to say how many times it was shown: 4, so the answer was 3 and 4 squared.

For the second activity, I had to times the number by it's self eg: 1x1=1 so your answer would be 1.

Kapa Haka (Can Do) #2

Kapa Haka (Can Do)

On Friday, I had Kapa Haka. When we walked in, mostly everyone was in their positions ready to start. I went to my position . First we did the school song with the old actions so the boys didn't walk through the middle and the girls didn't step aside. 

After that we went to our positions for Halleujah. After we did Halleujah we waited for the command to move to the next song. We then all moved to our next positions, which were the ones for Tuhurihuri.

The actions for Tuhurihuri are the Year 8 girls do long poi, while all of the other girls used the short poi or the small rakau sticks. The senior boys used these long sticks (I'm not sure what they are called) and the other boys did the actions.

Then we transitioned to our school, and went through that a few times. After that we left for morning tea. 

I showed leadership by listening respectfully to Matua, Mr Brown and Mrs Baker. 

Tecnology (Must Do) #2

Technology (Must Do)

Today for technology, we made pancakes. They weren't your average pancakes though, they were whole wheat pancakes.

First we added all the dry ingredients to the bowl. Then we sifted them together. We then added all the wet ingredients to another bowl. After that we mixed those together, and added them to the dry ingredients. Finally we mixed them altogether. Then we went over to the stove top.

We got a spoon, and started spooning the mixture into the fry pan. We waited for the bubbles on the top to burst, then we flipped it over. Once they hade fully cooked, we transferred them to a plate. To make sure they stayed warm, we put them in the warming draw, at the bottom of the oven.

When they had all finished cooking, we got to eat them. At first I didn't think that I was going to like them, but they were nothing like I expected. If I made these again, I would cook them a little longer, as they were not golden brown.

I showed leadership today by, respecting the gear and, being aware of the hot pan on the stove. 

 

Kapa Haka (Can Do) #1

Kapa Haka (Can Do)

On Friday, I had Kapa Haka. When I arrived I went to my line and got ready to start. First we went through all of the songs to warm up. Then we went onto the stage area on the ground and practiced our school song.

After that, we went to our positions for Halleujah. My spot is the top right corner. After we did Halleujah, we waited for the command to move to the next song. We then all moved to our next positions, which were the ones for Tuhurihuri. The Year 8 girls did long poi, the Year 5,6 and 7's did short poi, and the Year 4's did rakau.The Year 7/8 boys use these long sticks (I'm not sure what they are called), and the Year 4,5 and 6 boys did their actions. I think that all the actions look really cool together, and work really well with the song.

Then we transitioned to our school song, and went through that a few times. After that we left for morning tea. 

The care value I showed was respect because I listened respectfully to the teachers and my peers.

I showed leadership by listening respectfully to Matua, Mr Brown and Mrs Baker. 

Technology (Must Do) #1

Technology (Must Do)

On Tuesday we had technology at Lincoln Primary School. My group is cooking. I enjoy cooking, as some of the things we get to make are yummy. My favourite thing that we made were cinnamon pinwheels.

The thing we made today was Kiwi Burgers. Because we were starting Mandarin classes, we had to start cooking at 9:30 instead of 9:00. Some phrases I learnt from this lesson was,

Lǎoshī (Teacher), Nǐ hǎo (Hello), Huānyíng (Welcome). I found this session fun because, I didn't think that I was going to like it.

After Mandarin, we started to make the burgers. First we made the bread (By hand), then we made the patties (Also by hand). When the buns and patties were cooked, we assembled them. You had a choice of Pineapple, Cheese, Egg, Onion, Beetroot  and Tomato Sauce. I didn't have anything in my burger.

After we made them, we packed up and left for the bus.. 

I showed leadership by: Listening to the teacher and, sharing the utensils needed.

My CARE Progress

My CARE Progress

I have done a check of my CARE progress so far this year.

I am proud of my progress because: I have been earning more ticks that I had been in Term 1.

How far away are you from reaching your BRONZE/SILVER? All of the ticks, since I have just achieved my bronze.

The area of CARE that I need to try harder in C / A / R / E because: I have achieved less ticks in this area.

To achieve my BRONZE/SILVER award quicker I need to………. Work on my CARE values.

The one thing that I can do to improve my progress in CARE is………. Work on my CARE values.

We will review CARE progress again at the end of the term.

WALT apply the techniques of improvisation to a range of different scenarios.

Improvisation TECHNIQUES that I have used successfully are: Always say yes, and carry on with the scene.

Improvisation TECHNIQUES that I would like to have more practice at: Is being spontaneous, and coming up with things on the spot.

The thing that I enjoyed most about this unit of learning was playing the games

because, they were a fun way to get involved.

The thing that I found most challenging during this unit of learning

was getting involved because, I didn't like getting up in front of people and doing drama.

My favourite improvisation game was Doorbell because, it was a fun way to get involved.

My next step/ something I need to work on further  in improvisation is, getting more in depth because, I don't go all out.
